The largest bird flu broke out in Europe

A recent report of European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention statistics show that Europe has the largest avian flu outbreak this year. It has emerged in 37 countries and resulted in culling of nearly 2,500 poultry, 47.7 million birds and 3,500 wild birds.

What is bird flu?

Bird flu, also know as avian influenza,is caused by influenza viruses that affect birds, pigeons and poultry like chickens or ducks. It’s a strong pathogenic virus. Some birds also transmit avian influenza viruses in nature. But there is no proof that the virus can be transmitted from human to human.

The main transmission is infection through the respiratory tract and close contact with poultry secretions or excreta. Some patients can be infected by eating food and water with contaminated virus or directly contacting with the virus strain due to broken skin.

Symptoms and Complications

1, For low pathogenic signs, normally it is difficult to detect and it doesn’t have any clinical signs.

●  Respiratory distress

●  Diarrhea

●  Loss of appetite

●  Egg production drops more than 5%

2, For high pathogenic signs, disease happens suddenly and often with high morality rate.

●  Swollen head, eyelids, comb, wattles and hocks

●  Dullness and inappetence

●  Respiratory distress

●  Diarrhea

●  Egg production decreased seriously

If your poultry has any avian influenza, please contact the local animal health office right away.

Treatment and Prevention

1, Do disinfection to kill the virus in the farm.

2, Keep clean food and water for animals.

3, Prevent wildlife access.

4, Maintain control and sanitation for the people and equipment access to poultry houses.

5, Appropriately dispose feces and dead poultry

6, Report bird illnesses and deaths

7, Detect the avian influenza as soon as early.

Shenungtex Avian Influenza Virus (AIV) Ag Rapid Test Kit is a qualitative, lateral flow immunoassay for the detection of AIV antigen in Feces specimens. It’s easy to use with any equipment and get the accurate result in 5-10 minutes. It could help the farmer to detect the bird flu disease quickly and timely. It’s also a good way to prevent virus and reduce the loss.
